Our mission

Screen Tasmania is the State Government agency responsible for supporting and developing the state’s film, television and multimedia industries by increasing the amount of independent screen production occurring in Tasmania.

Screen Tasmania’s aims are:

  • to increase employment opportunities and skills in the screen industry
  • to tell Tasmanian stories to the world
  • to raise screen culture awareness in the State
  • to raise the profile of Tasmania to attract interstate and international projects and investment to Tasmania.

How can Screen Tasmania assist me?

Screen Tasmania provides loans, grants and equity investments in the development, production and marketing of Tasmanian screen projects including short films, drama, documentaries, feature films, TV series and digital media.
Screen Tasmania’s annual industry assistance budget is allocated to successful applications that are mainly received during funding rounds.
Projects may be submitted requesting funds under three programs of assistance:

  • Production Investment
  • Project Development
  • Industry and Cultural Development

The full guidelines, application forms and other information can be found here.

In addition to its funding role, Screen Tasmania aims to:

  • Provide advice and support to filmmakers
  • Guide applicants in their submissions
  • Assist filmmakers to hold or attend industry events
  • Act as a point of contact for industry members
  • Liaise with other screen industry bodies
  • Support the development of screen infrastructure
  • Develop long-term strategic plans

In addition to its funding role, Screen Tasmania develops programs that aim to provide long-term strategic support for the industry. These programs are often aimed at either professional development opportunities for industry practitioners or as production initiatives. Screen Tasmania also initiates and supports screen culture events such as film festivals.
